DIY Boat Build

Here’s one of my favorite engineering builds, a fully functional DIY canoe-style boat built with a strict $75 Home Depot budget and one-week deadline.

The frame was made from metal electrical conduit, held together with a mix of zip-ties and twine. After the skeleton was done, we wrapped it in a large tarp to keep water out and sealed every gap with duct tape. The paddle? Just a simple board shaped into a makeshift oar. We even had enough left in the budget to add a small American flag for flair.

What made this build stand out is that everyone else went with flat raft-style designs, while this was the only entry shaped like a canoe/kayak hybrid. And it paid off, this boat absolutely dominated the lake race, finishing before the others were even halfway across.
